I’ve been performing stand-up comedy for sixteen consecutive weeks now.
Last week, I had my best response yet. I put the recording here. Don’t listen if you’re easily offended by cursing or dark humor. Comedy explores tense subjects.
Stand-up incorporates writing but it’s also a performance, which is a different beast altogether. Pulling laughs from a crowd is an electric challenge. I have to be present in the moment, connect right away and get a rhythm going. If they are silent too long, it’s not working. It’s brutal and thrilling to give it a go. It lets you know you’re alive.
The material that comes out in stand-up is different from what I’ve been writing here. It’s darker, edgier, more satirical. I don’t completely understand it, but I’m hooked. I want to explore comedy further and weave it into everything I create.
Humor is the greatest performance art we have. What’s more important that coming together in laughter? What’s simpler than one person talking?
I hope you enjoy the set!
